Lagos explosion caused by Oxyacetylene gas – NLPGA

Breaking: 5 dead, dozens injured, as gas explosion rocks Ladipo, Mushin

A fresh report has emerged that the Lagos gas explosion was caused by oxyacetylene gas, not cooking gas as widely speculated.

This was the submission of the Nigeria Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association, NLPGA.

Speaking to newsmen on the development, the executive secretary, NLPGA, Olakunle Oyebanjo, said: “The accident was not caused by cooking gas as erroneously speculated in many quarters. It happened in an outlet involved in utilizing oxyacetylene for welding.

“Our Safety and Technical Committee is currently working on a report that will be made available to all stakeholders and the public.

“Until the proper investigation is conducted and concluded, it will not be appropriate to make extensive comments on this matter.”
