An Ilorin-based Information Communication Technology (ICT) expert, Mr Solomon Oluwole, has advocated for use of technology to tackle the high rate of internet fraud and cybercrime in the country.
Oluwole, who made the call in Ilorin on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that this would help curb cybercrime and internet fraud in the country.
According to him, physical tracking is not enough to tackle the high rate of internet fraud in the country.
Oluwole, who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Solo InfoTech, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin, described the rate at which youths got involved in cybercrime as alarming, stressing that only the use of technology could end the menace.
“This is not the time for security agents to engage suspects of cybercrime in physical combat or tracking. Rather, they should use technology to tackle the menace.
“The Federal Government should support security agents by providing necessary tools and training needed to tackle internet fraudsters.

“Government should also invite foreign experts to support and train our detectives and security agents on the use of technology to tackle crime.
“Cybercrime is becoming a notorious business among the youth in the country. We need to rescue the country from hackers. Nobody is safe again,” he said.
The ICT expert also said that no place was safe in the country again, as youths were actively involved in cybercrime.
He said that many innocent Nigerians had fallen victims to internet fraudsters, as they just moved their money directly from the bank to their own personal account without any trace.
“Many documents have been rendered useless, while signatures have been forged to achieve crimes in an illegal way. Only technology can help us in Nigeria,” he said.
Oluwole, however, called on governments at all levels to provide jobs for the teeming youth in the country, adding that they should not be neglected. (NAN)
