A Federal High Court in Jos on Thursday sentenced a 31-year-old man, Jacob Boniface, to five years imprisonment for trafficking hard drugs.
Boniface was arraigned on March 15, 2018 in possession of 1kg of Rohypnol in Jos by officials of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The convict had pleaded guilty.
Delivering judgment, Justice Dorcas Agishi, sentenced Boniface without option of fine.
The Judge described his action as “very bad” and “wicked” considering the effects of the kind of substance he was trafficking.

“He (convict) has not exhibited a good character at all. It’s like he wanted to destroy the lives of his victims.
“It is a known fact what this Rohypnol can do to innocent people out there in the society.
”For this reason, the defendant is hereby sentenced to 60 months imprisonment without any option of fine.”
Justice Agishi ordered that the hard drug be given to the NDLEA for destruction.
Earlier, the NDLEA Counsel, Mr Uchechukwu Eke, told the court that the convict was arrested in possession of 1kg of Rohypnol, a hard drugs similar to Cocaine and Heroine and therefore had committed an offence contrary to Section 19 of NDLEA Act, CAP N30, Law of Federation of Nigeria, 2004 (as amended).
Eke called a witness, Mr Etsu Daniel, the NDLEA Command Exhibits officer, who testified and tendered the some exhibits, including the convict’s statement and the substances to the Court.
Mr T.K. Goutul, the Defence Counsel, however, pleaded with the court to tamper Justice with mercy, since his client had no previous criminal record.(NAN)
