A 46-year-old man, Towolawi Ojo, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged breach of peace and character damage.
Crime and Court gathered that Ojo, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and character damage.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Adejare Elijah, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Nov. 16 at about 10:00 am around Bank Road in Ado-Ekiti.
Elijah said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by causing public nuisance at the food canteen of one Mrs Seun Afolabi.
He also said that the defendant damaged the character of the complainant by calling her a prostitute and that she always slept around with men in a public place, which almost ruined her marriage.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 249(d) and 375(d) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Kayode Oyeyemi, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that the defendant would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N30,000, with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case till Dec.10, for hearing.
