Irate youths clash with the Hizbah Board otherwise called the Sharia police in Kano Tuesday night following an attack on their joint and seizure of alcoholic drinks.
Eyewitnesses stated that violence started when the Sharia police personnel stormed Ballat Hughes by Court road in Fagge local government area, to confiscate alcoholic drinks at a joint operated by a woman.
Although it is agreed in Kano that consumption of alcoholic drinks is prohibited in the state exempting the Sabon Gari area of Fagge Local Government where the Shariah does not operate.
Incidentally, the Hisbah was said to have angered residents of the area in Sabon Gari, who are mostly non-indigenes.
The angry youths descended on the Sharia police and allegedly barricaded places and burned tires.
This resulted in stampede around the Sabon Gari area as hoodlums took advantage of the situation to loot.
When our correspondent contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Haruna Kiyawa on the matter but did not respond but sent a message that he was in a meeting.
